Roentgen Works - Redundant, Scalable, Clustered PACS/RIS


It’s a redundant, scalable cluster!

Roentgen Works is a cluster of nodes using the highest quality Linux servers with hot pluggable drives and 24x7 support. All data is replicated to both servers to ensure that your data is always available, even in the event of a failure. And, as your business expands, you can add more nodes. The customer configurable minimum replication count will automatically be maintained. Adding additional nodes not only increases your storage capacity, it also increases your performance. Each node is fully functional. You can access the browser-based interface as well as send DICOM or HL7 to any node! All changes are propagated immediately throughout the cluster and you can access the new data from any node. Propagation of changes throughout the cluster is usually complete in under ten milliseconds.

When a node goes down, all changes are queued for it. When the node rejoins the cluster, it is immediately updated to the current state. If the network between cluster nodes goes down, each node still continues to fully operate. Orders will continue to be entered, studies will be sent, your radiologists can continue to read and your physicians will still be able to access and update their patients. When the cluster nodes are able to reach each other, they will automatically update with all the latest changes. These capabilities make Roentgen Works ideal for multi-facility organizations. An inexpensive node can be installed at each facility to handle the local traffic but all data will be available throughout the organization!

BRIT Systems’ cluster management and system configuration does not require complicated software packages. Using the Web interface, system managers can login to the new node, enter the IP address of any existing cluster node and tell it to join. The new node will immediately begin syncing with the cluster and you can start utilizing the new resources in just a few seconds!

Roentgen Works uses an embedded, self-managing database. You don’t need a database administrator -- just plug-in the server and start using it!

Roentgen Works caches patient records, images and study results. It manages memory by freeing older data as needed to make room for newer data. This allows it to rarely access the disk, especially for new, active studies. The result is an extremely high performance server. A single Roentgen Works node can accept over 200 images per second, and can deliver over 1500 images per second, using the DICOM protocol!

Roentgen Works manages it’s disk space by automatically rebalancing to utilize free disk space on other nodes. Each site specify it’s own study retention policy by telling it to never delete, automatically delete when space is needed, or delete after a specific number of days. You can even tell it to retain those studies that have critical findings.

The smallest node has 1.5 Terabytes of usable storage. Currently, the largest node, has 12 Terabytes of usable storage. Configure up to eight nodes in a cluster to store images at a very reasonable price.

Another nice feature of Roentgen Works is its transaction recovery feature. Accidentally delete a study? No problem! All changes are stored in a transaction recovery log. No data on the disk is ever modified, it always creates a new copy and leaves the old copy. Deleted or modified data is guaranteed to be retained for a minimum of seven days. Using a Web interface, BRIT can recover your data at any point in time, down to a study granularity. No downtime, no tape backups, just fast and easy. It’s really amazing!
